Westmoreland Park

FYI this post is out of date... The playground at Westmoreland Park has had a recent makeover, with novel play equipment made from trees. Updated photos and review coming soonish...

If you can get over the ominous birds, Westmoreland offers a fun neighborhood park - with added water features.

Pros

  • A fun little neighborhood playground, with plenty of equipment in various states of graceful dilapidation.
  • A lake to walk/run around (not sure if more explicitly aquatic activities are possible).
  • Playing fields/courts to kick/bounce a ball around.
  • Bird watching? Duck feeding?
  • Public restroom. Picnic tables.

Cons

  • The birds! Massed ranks of ravenous, squawking gulls add a sinister, Hitchcockian air.
  • The roar of McLoughlin, steel framing and (by Portland park standards) a relative lack of trees all lend a certain post-industrial atmosphere. Windy and exposed in the winter months.
