Pros

  • The forest center itself is really quite outstanding… the quality of the exhibits is very high and it’s almost impossible not to learn something interesting.
  • Admission is free.
  • We especially enjoyed the lookout tower.

Cons

  • The hike down to Wilson Falls (1.3 miles distant) largely follows the route of the highway, which is noisy. Wilson Falls itself is an unimpressive footnote in the canon of Oregon wonders.

in the area

It’s on the way to (or back from) the coast on Highway 6, which is much prettier than 26. In a way that’s almost a problem, because it’s so tempting just to keep on driving out to Oceanside… Stubb Stewart State Park is not too far away.

if you like this…

Better hiking is to be found elsewhere. Champoeg Park and Fort Vancouver also offer great interpretive centers.
