Pros

  • An excellent visitors’ center with knowledgeable volunteers provides an eye-opening glimpse of early life in Oregon Country.
  • Several miles of flat hiking and cycling trails.
  • Tranquil; something of a hidden gem.
  • Disc golf and camping facilities.

Cons

  • Trails a little dull (by the stupendously high standards of Oregon trails, that is) and poorly signed. The nearby Willamette is hardly glimpsed.
  • May get mown down by small children on bicycles.

in the area

No summertime trip to the park is really complete without a stop for refreshments at nearby Butteville General Store, established 1863.
