Pros

  • A riverside beach with actual sand, not too far from home.
  • Parking (and portapotties) right by it.
  • Stock up on berries etc on the way back…?

Cons

  • The sand is a bit grey, the beach is a little narrow, it gets a little busy on hot summer days.
  • The beach shelves off quickly.
  • Just like everywhere else on the island, you’ll need a parking permit, available at the general store at the base of the bridge as you cross the river channel. A daily pass is $7.00; an annual permit is $22.00. Be sure to place this on your dash when you park at the beach. This is only a serious “con” if you forget about it and have to drive back to the store.
  • Honestly, it’s a bit of a schlep. Get to the island and you’re half way. It always seems to take us about 50 minutes from inner SE to the beach; drive for twice as long and you could be in Seaside instead, which is more than twice as fun.
