Picturesque scenery, decent facilities and plenty of quiet trails, with little in the way of elevation changes - Hagg Lake gets a thumbs up if you don't mind the drive...

A very pleasant, quiet spot for some gentle hiking or mountain biking (most visitors are here for the water, after all), Hagg Lake features various picnic areas, two boat launches, fishing and more than 15 miles of trails, with observation decks for wildlife and bird watching. And a disc golf course. And there’s allegedly a “food and boat rental concession stand located at the head of boat ramp C” – we didn’t get that far around.

Pros

  • Hiking and mountain biking trails around a pretty lake.
  • Plenty of water if you have a boat, plenty of fish if you have a line.
  • Quiet.

Cons

  • It’s a bit of a schlep from Portland.
